About

Ed Zirkle

World traveler, storyteller, and documentarian are a few of the words that describe Ed Zirkle. When Ed’s love of photographing family travel started as a young boy, little did he know his passion would take him around the world, much less to the war-torn country of Ukraine. His award-winning photography captures moments in time indescribable with words.

Ed’s professional history began as an intern at Louisville Courier Journal and then at Evansville Courier & Press before working full time as a photojournalist at the Mansfield News Journal. Ed spent some time at The Ohio State University as an IT manager which helped him transition from film to digital photography.

Besides his local coverage, his love of photojournalism also thrived covering national events such as presidential elections, Kentucky Derby, Indy 500, PGA Golf, Rose Parade, and the Rose Bowl.

In addition to this work, Ed has taught photography at The Ohio State University and Columbus State Community College. He also served as Education Chairman for the annual Ohio News Photographers Association conference.

Ed opened the first photography gallery in Columbus, Ohio and worked on the revival of a 1930 Paramount movie theater in Mansfield, Ohio.

He is worked the Associated Press Wire Service, United Press International Wire Service, and was represented by Woodfin Camp and Associates, SIPA France, and Image Brokers.

Ed’s a proud member of TriVillage Rotary, the National Press Photographers Association, Ohio News Photographers Association, Nikon Professional Services.

With many awards for his photography from the National Press Photographers Association and the Ohio News Photographers Association, photojournalism isn’t something Ed does, it’s something he lives.
